Iron sheet production methods

Generally, the production process of iron sheet consists of three stages: production of steel plate, reducing the thickness and width of the plate, and reducing the thickness or increasing the surface quality of the sheet produced in the second stage to the desired thickness or quality.   • Hot rolling method in this method, the steel slab is produced by continuous casting, which usually has a thickness between 160 and 300mm, a width of about 600 and 2200mm, and a length between 5 and 16 meters, this sheet is then entered into the hot rolling section to reduce its thickness to 1 to 7mm. the hoot rolling process consists of the following steps:
  • Preheat furnace: the temperature of the slab must be increased so that it can be injected into the hot rolling line.
  • Shell breaker: in this section this oxide shell that has formed on the slab in the preheated furnace is separated form it with high water pressure. It should be noted that peeking is done once at the beginning of the process and after the preheat furnace and once after the roughing station.
  • Roughing station: thick slab that have reached the necessary temperature to enter the hot rolling line are passed through two and four roller heavy stations in this section to reduce their thickness to 20 to 60mm.
  • Reducing the width: in all the a forementioned steps, the vertical rollers simultaneously operate across the width of the slab to bring it to the desired final sheet width.
  • Final rolling: at this stage, the thickness of the sheet is reduced again by passing through several four- roller stations to reach the desired thickness.
  • Cooling and packaging: the sheet produced in this step is cooled and then coiled.
  • Cold rolling method

The cold rolling method is actually an “extension’’ of the hot rolling method. This means that the iron sheet produced by hot rolling becomes thinner by passing through special rollers, or its appearance quality or surface resistance increases. In this method, the sheet is passed through the roller at room temperature (temperature lower than recrystallization) which leads to an increase in the hardness of the sheet (more malleability) and its resistance. Of course, since the process raises the temperature, cooling agents will be used in the production line. Iron sheet produced by the cold rolling methods are usually very thin (thickness between 0.12 and 2.5mm) and they are more resistant to corrosion. The thinness off cold- rolled sheets makes them suitable products for the manufacture of beverage cans or the body of light weight. Vehicles, such as light aircraft.

 

Types of iron sheets

  • black sheet black sheet is the best- selling and most widely used iron sheet in the market, which is usually used in construction. This type of iron sheet is produced by hot rolling method. this product is called black sheet because of its which is usually used in construction. This type 0f iron sheet is produced by hot rolling method. This product is called black sheet because of its matte color. Black sheet is classified according to the amount of carbon in the raw material and can be delivered from the factory as cut sheet or rolls. The quality of the black sheets is measured by the ST index, so that the ST33 sheet has the lowest carbon content and the ST52 sheet has the highest carbon content. The more carbon is the raw material of the sheet. It is the less flexible most of the consumption of the black sheet in Iran’s market is produced inside the country. Although different factories produce this producer should be considered as Isfahan mobarakeh steel. Black sheet has various uses, including the construction industrial industry, tanker construction, tank construction, automobile manufacturing ship building, and pipe manufacturing (sealed pipe production.)

the black sheet maybe produced in one of the following ways:

  • ribbed sheet if this sheet is to be used where there is a need to create friction (for example, to prevent slipping) ridges are created on the sheet using a treading machine.   • Oiled sheet the oiled sheet has a smooth and polished surface and it is produced by cold rolling method. also, it is called cold steel sheet. The oil sheet has two standards widths of 100 and 125 cm and it is produced with thicknesses from 0.3 to 4mm. generally, the oil sheet has three main grades:
  • ST12
  • ST133
  • ST14

The most widely used type of the oil sheet is ST12sheet, which is also known as stretch sheet. This product dimensional accuracy and high surface quality, and it is usually used in cases where beautiful appearance and sensivity are important. among the applications of oil sheet, we can mention the production of building profiles, furniture profiles, doors and windows, cabinet bodies, industrial parts, car parts, house hold electrical appliance part (such as refrigerator covers). Another use of oil sheet is in making galvanizeh sheet. Also, for applications that require friction along with beauty, the oil sheet may be produced in ribbed form.                                                          Among the most important producer of oiled sheet inside the country, we can mention mobarakeh steel, haft almas, west Asia steel, Derakhshan steel. Important type of this product is mainly, are on Kazakhstan, Russia, Korea and China.

  • Galvanizeh sheet  galvanizeh sheets are sheet with a metal coating (usually zinc). Sheet coating increases its resistance to oxidation, wear and corrosion. Galvanizeh sheet is either a lack steel that is galvanizeh by cold rolling method or an oil sheet that is covered with molten metals during rolling process.                                                             This sheet is used in the production of colored sheets, roofs of sheds, water pipes, and water storage tanks. Most of the galvanizeh sheet consumed on Iran is domestically produced by haft almas, Shahrekord, and Kashan factories. At the same time, imported products are also used, which are mainly imported from China.
  • Color sheet a colored sheet is a galvanizeh sheet with a color coating. To produce a colored sheet, first a layer of zinc oxide coating is applied on the galvanizeh sheet to protect it from scratched and stains. This type of sheet is usually used in applications where appearance is important, such as roofs of sheds or gazebos, interior or exterior facades, and the body of home appliances. A type of colored sheet made from galvanizeh sheet is known as gable covered sheet, which is available in the market in the form of sinusoidal shutter sheet pottery design sheet, shadow line sheet, trapezoidal sheet, and hedge sheet.                                         All kinds of colored sheets are produced in Iran by Mobarakeh steel, Bahman steel, Haft almas, and Semnan. the imported type of this product is also mainly made in China.
  • Alloy sheet  as it is clear from the name of this product, various alloys are used in the production of alloy sheet which depending on the type of material and the percentage of that sheet will have specific characteristics and applications. Alloy sheet can be produced by both hot and cold rolling. The types of alloy sheets are:
  • Brass sheet  this sheet is produced from the combination of zinc and copper alloys. For this reason, this product is yellow in color and looks like gold. The higher the amount of capper  in the alloy, the most yellow its chore and the greater its flexibility, strength, beauty, and luster.
  • Bronze sheet  this sheet is produced from phosphor bronze alloy, the most important feature of which is electrical conductivity. Also, this alloy has flexibility, spring properties, and good durability.
  • Aluzinc sheet Aluzinc sheet is produced from the combination of Aluminum, zinc, and silicon alloys in galvanizeh sheet this method greatly increases the sheets resistance to rust. Other features of this type of sheet include appropriate weight, greater flexibility, and more accurate dimensions.
  • Anti-wear sheet this sheet, also known as Hardox, is produced from high carbon sheet alloy with manganese. The higher the amount of carbon in the sheet the greater its strength and anti-wear properties.
  • Stainless steel sheet  stainless steel sheet is produced from stainless steel. This product has high corrosion resistance, high hardness, and great malleability. This sheet is generally used in the manufacture of household appliances, food industry, and automobile manufacturing.
